This God-Forsaken Hell-Hole We Call Home
...now has its own actual, literal hell-hole:

They were wondering how quickly they would be able to dig it out - but the folks who built the house graded it in such a way that this edge of the backyard was always intended to support a negative edge pool
(editor's note: this type of construction is referred to as "negative edge" or "infinity edge" - aren't those opposites, or, at least, shouldn't they be?)
so I'm not surprised that they got it knocked out that quickly. Now if I can just get Lucy coaxed into jumping down into the big "play area" while I arrange a little cave-in...
It LOOKS like that backhoe is digging in my back yard, but it is actually digging in my wallet. I can feel my bank account getting smaller, and my debt getting larger, with every little ca-CHUNK of the blade. It's my understanding that I'm supposed to go to the bank and get cash - small bills - and bring them home in a truck, and fill up this hole; when the hole gets full, then the pool company comes and takes the money and leaves a pool (sort of like the tooth fairy in reverse - they TAKE the money, and they leave you a lot of pain).
Ethel is, of course, all atwitter - she's talking plumbing and steel and shotcrete and pavers.
The dogs, on the other hand, are not at all happy about this - they had a YARD there, and now there's nothing at all. What happened to that poop-place with the great view?

Looks like it will turn out great. I do question your decision not to put heat in the pool -- even if *you* never intend to use it, a pool without a heater has got to be a negative when you sell the house. That stuff is expensive to retrofit later, so as a buyer it would be a deal killer for me.
Let's face it -- given your history you're not going to be in this house forever... :-)

No worries, my dog Oscar loves pooping by the pool better than just about anywhere else. Your dogs will adjust. And they won't care if it's not heated, either.
