Cool Old British Roadster Driving Dude


Ethel decided that I needed a hat for driving my roadster.

So she bought me one.

                                                  

This hat is actually just a bit too large - they had only two sizes,  "S/M" and "L/XL", whereas what I needed was a "M/L". I realized pretty quickly that the "S/M" would have given me a headache; Ethel thinks that she can sew a seam into the hatband and force it to stay on my head.

This photo gives me the impression that the subject might, at any moment, break out into a set of words like "lorry" and "sodding" and "bloody" and suchlike - he does not look like he's about to let loose with a "y'all" or an "I'm fixin' ta".

(Most distressing, from a personal point of view, are the curly white chest hairs poking out of the shirt at the neckline. Obviously, it's time for me to get some Grecian Formula 32, or even 64.)

This is a Monday, which means

* up at 4:40
* Run nine miles
* Lift
* Office by 9:30
* 5:30 meeting
* Home by 7:40 or so.

This morning, it was almost five hours from the time that I got up, until the time that I got to work; that was five hours with mostly very hard work, before starting my actual "job". This causes me to think that - just maybe - I'm doing this wrong.

Last week, I happened to go into the office on a Thursday (usually I work from home on Thursdays). That meant that all I did was go to work, and come home - no run, no lifting, no meeting. It felt like a day off.

Now I'm wondering - maybe I should do that EVERY day.

Most people don't go to the gym. Most people don't run. Why do I want to do this sort of thing?

When I quit smoking 16 1/2 years ago, I started mountain biking 125 miles a week and spending 12 hours per week in the gym. After several years of hyperactivity I was forced by job and marital commitments to cut back somewhat... there may be hope for you yet.

      I quit smoking 18 1/2 years ago, myself, but it took me another year to start running recreationally. Maybe I'm just behind the curve.
