She's A Grand Old Flag

Here's the Bama Flag, flying out in front of the Chocolate House.

We got this up on gameday - August 30th - in plenty of time for it to get comfortable for the Bama/Clemson game. It worked, too. We won : )

However, things aren't looking so hot for this week's game - during last night's monsoon, the flag was pulled right out of the wall - pole, bracket and all. I reckon that they don't make stucco the way that they used to. Now we have to patch the stucco and find someplace to fly the flag that isn't quite so exposed to the winds that we get with these summer storms.

Ethel wants to put up an American Flag, but I'm not in favor of doing so. For one thing, you can't fly the Stars and Stripes in the dark, or in the rain - and we're not disciplined enough to take it down (or turn on a spotlight) every night or every time it rains. And then there's the other issue - I don't believe that we should be flying the flag on any pole that is mounted at an angle - as I recall, the American Flag is never dipped (that's what riled up ol' Hitler so much, when Jesse Owens refused to dip the flag : )

(of course, I could just do some Googling to find out - but sometimes it's just fun to think about these things before finding the answers out :)

You have to love the way Alabama opened the season; sure Tulane was closer than expected, but they just spanked Clemson.
